GLAMOUR PORTRAITURE:

Glamour portrait my way: Translated

Richard Avedon, the biggest fashion photographer of the 20th century, revolutionised fashion photography. Avedon brought action into the studio, used controlled available light for many studio photos and furthered a minimal approach. Avedon would often do multi model shoots with actors miming their own world.

If Avedon has a magnum opus photo it has to be the 'Dovima With Elephants' series. The contrast and at the same time interaction with the animal made this paradoxical photo iconic.

By taking fashion and glamour photography to the galleries Richard Avedon elevated fashion and glamour photography to a visual art status.

Richard Avedon took to the streets with classic interactive fashion photos often adding a tonic of action.

Avedon would create an image that will appear as if a decisive moment photo. One can not actually help to feel, that although set-up, some of Avedon's street fashion photos also have a strong element of decisive moment, which of course knocks on 'street photography' as a genre. Avedon would frame images within images and by doing so create micro and macro compositions. His point-of-view added to his variety when working in the streets, using high and very low positions to photograph from.

I often say that, I would much easier go without a make-up artist than a hairdresser, and would like to think that Avedon felt the same. Avedon did amazing work with models using hair for action in studio and on location.
